I have two distinct core memories. The first is reading stories at night after bedtime with a flashlight(no blanket over my head though; sensory nightmare, much?). I took the same same gamble every night- hoping my parents wouldn’t come in and catch me. The second memory is going on road trips with my family. We didn’t have a lot of money because my dad was a teacher, but we did all have summers off and gas in the ‘90’s was like a buck fifty a gallon. My favorite part of these trips was that they would get me a disposable camera to make my memories permanent.
In high school I bought an “old” Canon AE-1 and discovered a new aspect of photography. One where I could take every part of the image apart and analyze it. Eventually I combined my great childhood loves— stories and making images— and found filmmaking. I’ve spent the past 15 years chasing light, chasing stories, chasing the feeling that happens when the right message meets the right moment. I’ve worked with nonprofits trying to change the world, small businesses trying to stay open, and global brands trying to feel local. Through it all, one thing’s stayed true: good stories, told well, make people care.
